FLY is thrilled to announce that we have our very own FLY mural located at Pinewood High School in Los Altos. The students of Pinewood High approached FLY with the idea of creating a mural highlighting a community organization to raise awareness as well as support with donations. This mural was designed and painted collaboratively by the students of Artruistic and Kianna, a FLY alumni and FLY’s resident artist. In honor of Black History Month, we reflect on a past trip to the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama as well as spotlight different nonprofits within our community that prioritize the health and voices of the Black community—starting with the Equal Justice Initiative.
With the current state of the world, people are now more than ever wishing to learn about how we can create a more just and equitable future for our youth. This is why we’ve decided to launch Movement for Justice—a virtual series that addresses hot topics on the juvenile justice landscape. In each installment, there are panel interviews comprised of FLY staff, youth, and other guest speakers. This is a space for our supporters to have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with FLY on a deeper level.
FLYs’ former CEO of 20 years reflects the past year as FLY’s Founder in Residence and an ally in our pursuit of justice. It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since I stepped down as FLY’s CEO and became our Founder in Residence! Yet I’m not surprised at how smooth this transition was because we laid the foundation with so much intention and have such a dedicated team at FLY.
