FLY is a California Nonprofit of the Year!

This week, FLY joined an exclusive group of nonprofits honored by California legislators this year for the great work we are doing in our communities.

We were selected as a 2021 California Nonprofit of the Year by Senator Bob Wieckowski of Alameda County. We’d like to thank the Senator for this distinctive honor and for highlighting our work.

One state senator said of the honored nonprofits, “I want to recognize your resiliency during this challenging time. You have stepped up to provide families with essentials, were on the front lines of keeping our communities safe, and found ways to adjust your mission to ensure our communities continue to thrive.”

This recognition validates our efforts to become even more responsive to our youth and communities during these challenging times. We doubled-down and we deepened our impact.

However, along with this great news we learned some sobering facts about our sector from CalNonprofits: during the pandemic, 32% of California nonprofits have been forced to reduce activity below 50%, 14% have completely shut down, and more are still suffering deep financial losses.

We know we are very fortunate to be emerging from the pandemic strong in our programs, our financial health, and our reputation. As we celebrate this award, we offer you our deepest gratitude. Your continuing support of our young people and our communities will help make FLY’s vision of justice a reality!
