Volunteer

Our fantastic network of volunteers has helped us achieve incredible results! Last year alone, over 150 volunteers provided nearly 8,000 hours of service.

Interested in volunteering?

We are always looking for energetic individuals who are interested in becoming a mentor, facilitating a law/life skills class, hosting a networking or fundraising event for FLY, or contributing special talents and skills like photography.

Mentor Program: Mentors 21 years or older are matched with a youth who is on probation and/or struggling with drug or alcohol use.  Mentors meet with the youth one-on-one at least 3 times a month for 2-3 hours at a time.  FLY also organizes activities throughout the year free of cost such as white water rafting, laser tag, ice skating, and a ropes course.  Because building trust and making change takes time and consistency, mentors should be willing to make a 2-year commitment. If you’d like to volunteer as a mentor, please submit an application.

Law Program: Teams of 2-4 facilitators teach FLY’s semester-long juvenile law and life skills class to youth who are on probation or at risk of probation.  Classes meet once a week for approximately 14 weeks.  No prior legal education or experience is necessary — FLY provides a well-developed curriculum and training. If you’d like to volunteer to facilitate a class, please submit an application.

For more information: If you’d like to host a networking or fundraising event for FLY, would like to discuss talents and skills you are interested in sharing with FLY, or have any questions about volunteering with the Mentor or Law Programs, please contact our Volunteer Manager, Michele Gustafson at michele@flyprogram.org.

We hope you will be able to join us Taste for Fresh Lifelines for Youth event on Thursday, June 13th. At this special event, guests will stroll through the stunning grounds of the Thomas Fogarty Winery and Vineyards, enjoying gourmet food and award-winning Fogarty wines, as well as Gordon Biersch specialty brews. During this fun social evening, guests will learn about FLY’s award-winning results at each tasting stop, as they wend their way through the spacious pavilion overlooking the winery’s Chardonnay vineyard and have a chance to bid on silent auction items and partake in a little friendly competition playing an old-fashioned game of “heads or tails” in hopes of winning an exciting prize.

During the evening, FLY Founder and Executive Director Christa Gannon will share the latest FLY news and honor several extraordinary volunteers for their direct service to our youth. The event will also feature FLY’s “Fund a Need” tree and an EXPO room, where guests will learn more about FLY’s programs and meet FLY staff and clients.

To enhance your evening, please consider attending our pre-event VIP reception featuring an interactive cook class (with Fogarty wine pairings) taught by local celebrity chef TRACI DES JARDINS.
