GIVE TODAY, IMPACT A LIFETIME

Every young person deserves the chance to FLY.

For over 25 years, FLY has partnered with over 50,000 youth to unlock their potential, disrupt the pipeline to prison, and advance justice in California and beyond.

We know that when young people,  especially those who

have been pushed out, locked up, or left behind, are given real support and opportunity, they don’t just transform their own lives, they transform their families, their communities, and the systems that once failed

 them.

That kind of change starts with you.

When you invest in FLY, you’re investing in the belief that all youth are full of potential, deserving of support, and capable of leading the way toward a more just and vibrant California. Explore the ways you

can be part of that future.

GIVE FROM YOUR DAF

Put your DAF to work for young people in your community

If you have a donor-advised fund, recommending a grant to FLY is one of the simplest ways to give.

A grant from your DAF means 100% of your gift goes directly to our programs, no additional tax paperwork needed, since you already received your deduction when you funded the account.
Just search for FLY Program with your DAF sponsor and recommend a grant in minutes.

MAKE A STOCK GIFT

Give appreciated stock, and give more for less

Donating stock you’ve held for more than a year is one of the smartest giving strategies available.

When you transfer appreciated securities directly to FLY, you avoid paying capital gains tax on the growth and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value. That means your gift goes further than if you sold the stock first and donated the proceeds. It’s a win for you and a win for the young people FLY serves.
This giving method works best for stock, mutual funds, or other securities you’ve held for more than one year.

How it works in 3 simple steps:

1. Contact your broker or financial institution. Log into your brokerage account or call your financial advisor and request a stock transfer to a charitable organization.

2. Share FLY’s transfer instructions. Provide your broker with the following:
Account Name: NFS DTC Clearing Number: 0226 Account: Fresh Lifelines for Youth, Inc. (“FLY”) Account Number: RJL-037401 Federal Tax ID (EIN): 52-2234595

3. Let us know it’s coming. Stock transfers often arrive without donor information attached. Please notify us of your gift so we can acknowledge it promptly and ensure it’s applied correctly.

A few things to know:
The stock must be transferred directly from your brokerage account to FLY, selling the shares first and donating the cash eliminates the capital gains tax benefit. Your charitable deduction is based on the fair market value of the shares on the date of transfer, not your original purchase price. Please consult your financial advisor or tax professional to confirm this strategy is right for your situation.

IRA GIVING

Turn your required distribution into a gift – tax-free

One of the most tax-smart ways to give — if you’re 70½ or older.

If you have a traditional IRA, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly to FLY up to $105,000 per year and pay zero federal income tax on the transfer. It counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and never touches your taxable income. That means your full gift goes to work for young people, not the IRS.

How it works in 3 simple steps:

1. Contact your IRA custodian. Call the number on your statement or log into your account at Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, or wherever your IRA is held. Request a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

2. Direct the check to FLY. Ask your custodian to make the check payable to Fresh Lifelines for Youth and mail it to:

Fresh Lifelines for Youth Sobrato Center for Nonprofits 1400 Parkmoor Ave., Suite 250 San Jose, CA 95126 EIN: 52-2234595

3. Let us know it’s coming. Because QCD checks often arrive without donor information, please notify us so we can acknowledge your gift promptly and ensure it’s applied correctly.

Questions? Please contact our Associate Director of Giving:
Barbara Martinez Associate Director of Giving 📞 (408) 564-2194 📧 Barbara@flyprogram.org

A few things to know:

You must be 70½ or older to make a QCD. Gifts must be transferred directly from your IRA to FLY — withdrawing the funds yourself first disqualifies the tax benefit. QCDs must be completed by December 31 to count for that tax year. Please consult your financial advisor or tax professional to confirm this strategy is right for your situation.

LEGACY GIVING

Forever FLY. Leave a Legacy of Justice, Hope, and Possibility.

A gift in your will or estate plan costs nothing today, and creates opportunity for young people for generations to come.

At FLY, we believe in the power of second chances and the lasting change that comes when young people impacted by the justice system are seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. A gift to FLY through your estate plans is more than an investment; it’s a declaration of belief in our youth and a commitment to building a more just and hopeful world.
By including FLY in your estate plans, you extend your commitment to youth for generations to come. Your legacy gift ensures that future young people will continue to receive the mentorship, education, and advocacy they need to unlock their full potential. The impact you make today can echo far beyond your lifetime.

Ways to Leave Your Legacy

Bequests A bequest is a gift made through your will or living trust. You can specify an amount, a percentage of your estate, or specific assets. Bequests are simple to arrange, cost nothing during your lifetime, and can be changed at any time.

Sample bequest language:
I give and bequeath to Fresh Lifelines for Youth, a California nonprofit corporation (EIN: 52-2234595), located at 1400 Parkmoor Ave., Suite 250, San Jose, CA 95126, [the sum of $____ / __% of my estate / the remainder of my estate] to be used in support of its general charitable purposes.”
If you’d like to restrict your gift to a specific program or purpose, we’re happy to work with you and your attorney to ensure your wishes are honored. Contact Barbara Martinez at Barbara@flyprogram.org
.

Beneficiary Designations You can name FLY as a beneficiary of your retirement accounts (IRA, 401k), life insurance policies, or financial accounts, without changing your will. This is one of the simplest legacy gifts available and can provide significant tax advantages, since retirement accounts left to heirs are taxable but gifts to nonprofits are not.
To designate FLY, simply contact your plan administrator and request a beneficiary designation form. Use:
Legal name: Fresh Lifelines for Youth EIN: 52-2234595 Address: 1400 Parkmoor Ave., Suite 250, San Jose, CA 95126

Charitable Remainder Trusts A Charitable Remainder Trust allows you to receive income for life or a term of years, with the remainder going to FLY. This option can provide you with a steady income stream, an immediate partial tax deduction, and potential capital gains tax savings. We recommend working with a planned giving attorney to explore this option.

Charitable Lead Trusts A Charitable Lead Trust provides income to FLY for a term of years, with the remainder going to your heirs. This can significantly reduce gift and estate taxes while supporting the young people FLY serves today.

Gifts of Real Estate or Other Assets You can donate real estate, stocks, bonds, or other assets to FLY. These gifts can be arranged to provide you with meaningful tax benefits while powering our mission for years to come.

Let’s Build a Brighter Future Together
If you’ve already included FLY in your estate plans, or if you’re considering doing so, we’d love to hear from you. Your foresight and generosity ensure that Fresh Lifelines for Youth can continue to provide critical services and support to young people in need — today and for generations to come.
